Woo Pig! Hayden Bush is Fayetteville Bound

Coach Courtney Deifel and the Arkansas Razorbacks softball program picked up another strong 2027 commitment yesterday, securing middle infielder Hayden Bush. Bush is a standout from Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri, where she turned in an impressive season for the Bruins and earned First Team All State, Conference, District, and Region honors in 2025. The Bruins also made a run to the Missouri Class 5 State Championship game.

I had the chance to speak with Bush for a few questions about her decision and the experiences that have shaped her as a student athlete. That includes her development at Rock Bridge and her time with Select Fastpitch 18u Alvarado.

To start, Hayden shared that her commitment to Arkansas came down to finding a place that checked the boxes. For her, the Razorbacks delivered on all fronts.

“I committed to Arkansas because it had everything I could have ever wanted in a school. It is a good distance from home, a really great softball program, amazing coaches, good education, and I have friends there,” said Bush.

She followed that by pointing to the staff as a major part of her excitement for the future. The family structure and pushing players to be the best really excites Bush.

“The coaching staff is one of the things I’m most excited about because they have that family structure but are also going to push you to be the player and person you want to be, and that very much aligns with what I believe in.”

Bush went on to explain why Arkansas became a great fit for her, and she feels that there is not better place for her to be.

“Arkansas checked a lot of boxes for me. It is close to home, great program, amazing coaching staff, family atmosphere, good education, and I know people there. Looking at it now there is no place I’d rather be and it offers more than I ever thought I could have,” Bush explained.

Her foundation as both a student and a player has been strengthened by Rock Bridge High School, something she takes pride in. The expectations and culture there have challenged her in all the right ways.

“Rock Bridge has a good reputation for its athletics and academics. We compete in the highest class of Missouri and we have had a lot of success. Rock Bridge has helped me develop skills with balancing softball and school with the busy high school schedule we play, along with practicing everyday and lifting throughout the week. The coaches and teachers push us to be the best on the field and in the classroom, but are also our biggest supporters.”

Alongside her high school experience, the travel ball side of her journey has been just as important. Select Fastpitch has been instrumental in shaping who she is as a player and as a person, and she spoke highly of their impact.

“Playing for Select Fastpitch has shaped me into the player I am today and helped me find the things I value on a team. There are so many wonderful coaches in the Select Fastpitch organization that are so committed to helping you be a great player and a great person.”

Bush added that the family feeling at Select is what sets it apart. Family is a huge word for Hayden Bush.

“Select has showed me that a family environment is the best environment to be around. Honestly my favorite thing about Select is how much support there is through each age group. We spend a lot of time with older and younger age groups of the organization, so they might not be on your team but they are a part of your family and being a part of the Select family is so special.”

As for her individual game, Hayden pretty much described herself as cool, calm, and collected, something she believes gives her an edge in big moments.

“I would say I have a very calm and collected vibe and mindset when I play. I always want to have fun and big moments obviously get me excited but for the most part I’m pretty level. It makes a difference in the game for me because it allows me to slow down the game in my head and not let the pressure get to me.”

Bush has found her fit, and now she will continue working toward being a better and stronger player before reaching Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 2027. We are excited to see Bush’s career begin for the Razorbacks.
