On Friday, the Carolina Blaze added right-handed pitcher Ruby Meylan to the staff. Meylan comes in after the Blaze released pitcher Jala Wright on Wednesday. She appeared in six games with the Oklahoma City Spark before reassignment to the reserve pool on June 23.
Meylan was a three-time NFCA All-American and was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Year in 2026 at Oklahoma State. She was also a first-team All-America selection by D1Softball and Softball America, as well as a USA Softball Player of the Year Top 25 finalist. Meylan spent two seasons in Stillwater, Okla., after transferring from the University of Washington.
During her four collegiate years, she finished with a career 2.18 ERA, 801 strikeouts to 247 walks, and an opponents’ batting average of .214. In 2026, Meylan finished with a 29-9 record, a 2.43 ERA and 220 strikeouts over 244.2 innings, with her 29 wins the most for an OSU pitcher since Melanie Roche’s program-best 32 wins in 1993.
“We are excited to add Ruby Meylan,” said Blaze general manager Dana Sorensen. “She is a top level pitcher with elite stuff. She is an ultimate competitor who has time and time again shown a fierce desire to win and been in big moments. We are trying to make a push for the playoffs, and our staff collectively felt that Ruby would make our team better for that playoff run.”
Carolina continues its road trip Friday night in Round Rock, Texas, as it faces the Texas Volts. The Blaze sit with an 8-9 record and are fourth in the AUSL standings. Meylan is projected to start Game 3 on Monday, June 13.
