The final series of the AUSL All-Star Cup got underway Friday night, with Team Flippen topping Team Klingler 3-1 at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
Team Klingler grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second when Sydney McKinney led off with a triple and scored on an Amari Harper sacrifice fly. Team Flippen answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. Dejah Mulipola walked and Tiare Jennings singled to set the table before Bubba Nickles-Camarena launched a three-run homer off the top of the scoreboard in right center for a lead Flippen wouldn’t give back.
Rachel Garcia earned the win, allowing one run over 5.1 innings with five strikeouts, and Kenzie Brown closed it out for her first save of the Cup. Garcia posted five strikeouts for the 21st time she’s reached five or more in an All-Star Cup game, and her season-high 244-point night moved her up 13 spots to fifth on the leaderboard.
The loss was Baylee Klingler’s first as a captain, snapping her personal five-game win streak. Klingler still holds the top spot with 910 points.
Game 2 of Series 4 will bring Team Flippen against Team Kilfoyl on Saturday night. Game time is set for 8 p.m. EDT and will be televised on MLB Network.
