Talons Stay the Course in Low-Scoring Victory

The Talons continued their trajectory toward a great season and maintained their consistent play. Today, they met with the Volts for the second day in a row, and as I have stated in days past, they won in their own way.

When I think of complete teams, and teams that epitomize championship qualities, being able to win in any kind of game always stands out.

Today, it only took two runs and solid pitching from Raelin Chaffin and Megan Feraimo to shut down the Volts and extend the Talons’ winning streak to seven games.

Raelin Chaffin’s Emergence in the Circle

Chaffin has really come along in the circle for the Talons. As a rookie out of Mississippi State, she has compiled a 4-1 record with a 3.82 ERA and a .265 opponent batting average.

A couple of outings back in June really skewed her ERA, but since then she has settled back in. Over her last three outings, she has allowed just three runs in 12 innings pitched.

The Talons pitching staff is a scary sight. You really can’t go wrong with who takes the ball, and that is always a major positive in softball.

A Look Ahead to Omaha

Standing at 12-3 and approaching a series with the Bandits, who sit just two games behind, the Talons will have an opportunity to really set themselves apart in Omaha.

This upcoming series could be the series of the season. If things continue on the same trajectory, these three games could help determine who ends up as the top seed heading into Champ Weekend in Tuscaloosa.

Now will the No. 1 or No. 2 seed matter? Probably not. The main objective is to get there. But you better believe both squads will be treating this one like it does.

Vidales Delivers When It Counts

Offense was minimal today, as each team tallied just four hits. The Talons, however, capitalized when it mattered in the first and third innings. Tori Vidales recorded RBI singles in both frames, each time bringing home Jadelyn Allchin.

Vidales finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and that’s what it took to get it done today.

Final Thoughts on Series 5 in Rosemont

This week we really saw professional softball at its truest form. The Bandits faced some adversity but found a way to win today and grab some momentum before their clash with the Talons.

The Blaze showed real fight in back to back games with the Bandits, taking one from them yesterday. This team has ballers and proved they can hang with the best. I also learned more about the strong culture they’ve built within that locker room.

The Volts, on the other hand, continued their up and down nature. Now at 5-10, things looked good Monday night when they took down the Bandits, but they could not carry that energy forward, dropping the next two games without scoring a run against the Talons.

Today they left seven runners on base. That has plagued them all season. Even though they held the Talons to two runs on four hits, it was not enough.

Still, it’s the Talons and Bandits leading the charge. Even with the Bandits dropping two games this series, they still control their destiny to Tuscaloosa. The Talons just have to keep driving the bus as they have. They are in control.
