Rookies continue to make an impact early in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League season. Thursday evening in Round Rock, Texas, the Utah Talons defeated the Texas Volts 4-3. The Talons received a third-inning RBI double from Kailey Wyckoff to tie the game at 2.
Wyckoff finished 2-for-2 and also reached on a single, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Her quick transition from Arkansas to the AUSL looks smooth so far, and she hasn’t let the moment change anything in how she handles business.
“I think the adjustment has been pretty good,” Wyckoff told Southeastern Softball Wire. “I think, like I answered for you earlier, I’ve just played really free. Like I said, my teammates have just been so welcoming, and they don’t let me feel any pressure. I’m just playing softball, and so I think my approach at the plate hasn’t really changed much. I just continue to feel free.”
Her approach has been fantastic in her first three games as a Talon after her call from the reserve pool. Wyckoff has a .429 batting average with an OPS of 1.171 in 10 plate appearances. Ten plate appearances isn’t much, but if those results are any indication of continued consistency, you have to love it.
Fouts, who set an AUSL record with 12 strikeouts in the game, praised Wyckoff’s mentality and her continued work on her game.
“And in case I don’t get asked this, I’m going to say it anyway, how awesome it is that Kailey is here,” Fouts said. “We’re grateful to have you. We have not gotten to spend a lot of time together, but I think it’s so awesome to hear you say that you’re waiting on the call and still working after your season.
“A lot of people don’t do that, and you can clearly see it paying off. She’s just a really bright soul in the locker room and around. We talk about one swing away, and obviously yours was today, and it helped get us the win. I think that’s awesome, and it speaks a lot to who you are.”
Arkansas has sent three rookies to the AUSL, and all are making noise at the plate. Dakota Kennedy of the Carolina Blaze and Tianna Bell, who got called up by the Chicago Bandits, have been on their game as well. It looks like Razorback head coach Courtney Deifel and Arkansas did a great job preparing their players for the next level.
Wyckoff enjoys seeing the success of her collegiate teammates after playing with each of them during the 2026 collegiate season.
“Oh, it’s so big,” Wyckoff said. “I love seeing them succeed. Having played with them last year, they’re just the greatest people on the planet, so I love to see them succeed in any way they can. It’s so good.”
