Just a Reminder That Support, Grace, and Fun Still Matter

Making sure to always give your best can be stressful. Especially when you’ve worked hard for something your whole life. The high-level pressure of college sports can take a mental toll on even the most talented athletes. Oftentimes, the physical part of it is the least of a player’s worries.

It’s easier said than done, but on your journey to be great and to meet the demands of your goals, don’t forget to take a breath and have fun. Things tend to fall into place when you do those things.

Having a good support system helps. There is absolutely no shame in that. Whether it’s your parents, a close friend, or a coach, talking about things can make a real difference. And that isn’t just about sports. That applies to life in general. You shouldn’t have to carry all of the pressure alone. Life wasn’t meant to work that way.

During my latest podcast episode with Bre Warren of Virginia Tech, she spoke openly about the mental side of the game and how she found her love for it again. Injuries and unexpected moments can take you away from the game, and figuring out how to respond and bounce back isn’t always easy.

Everything Tennessee softball said after win over Northern Kentucky

After a year away from softball, Warren made the choice to give it another shot. Family, friends, and coaches were there for her through the process. They encouraged her and helped her believe that she could still do this.

Then, after playing a short stint of summer ball at the Scenic City Collegiate League in Chattanooga, she felt that spark again. That love for the game came back. Now heading into the 2025-26 season at Virginia Tech, she’s excited for the journey ahead.

I know this isn’t an article on a game or breaking news, but I wanted to share it anyway. Maybe someone out there just needs a small reminder to ease up on themselves. This game, and life too, can be tough. But remember why you started playing. Most of you fell in love with this sport at a young age, and it was fun. It can still be fun. And most importantly, there are people out there who support you. You don’t have to go through it alone.
