DURHAM, N.C. — A day before the series opener with the Utah Talons, Carolina Blaze catcher/utility Kayla Kowalik was placed on the injured list. In her time of absence, the Blaze acquired Jordyn Rudd-Lee from the reserve pool.
Kowalik is the current team leader in hits with 10 and two doubles, while slashing .400/.444/.480 in eight games played. She has also split time with Reese Atwood behind the dish at catcher, especially in games that Karlyn Pickens has started.
On June 17, against the Chicago Bandits, Kowalik pulled a hamstring while sliding into second base. She exited the game, but would have been ready to hit her next time around, according to Blaze head coach Kara Dill. Kowalik returned to play the next two games in the series vs. the Bandits.
Jordyn Rudd-Lee has seen action in three games with the Texas Volts this season. In the June 15 game, where the Blaze defeated the Volts 6-5 in nine innings, Rudd-Lee batted 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
Exact details for Wednesday’s injured list placement are not known at this time of reporting. If any details arise, you will be updated.
