At the plate, the Carolina Blaze produces its best work early in counts. For an aggressive hitting team, that approach means taking the good with the bad. But more times than not, a hitter will miss their best pitch by taking a more passive approach.
That aggressiveness shows up in the power numbers. Of the 15 home runs Carolina has hit on the season, 11 have come within the first three pitches of an at-bat. Nearly three of every four Blaze homers arrive before a hitter ever sees a fourth pitch. When broken down further, the pattern holds. Five have come on the very first pitch, four on a 1-1 count and two on an 0-1 count. When the Blaze do damage, they do it early.
