DURHAM, N.C. — Carolina Blaze head coach Kara Dill provided an update on catcher Kayla Kowalik following Game 1 against the Utah Talons.
“Yeah, it’s lower half,” Dill said. “So she’s on the IR for seven days right now, and then it’s gonna be day to day after that. We expect her to be back in our lineup. But as of right now, that’s what she’s on for seven days right now.”
Dill did not specify the exact nature of the injury beyond it being lower half. While unconfirmed, the placement may stem from the hamstring Kowalik pulled on June 17 against the Chicago Bandits, when she exited the game after sliding into second base.
She returned to play the next two games in that series, but the lingering effects of that injury could be a factor in the current placement.
Kowalik was placed on the injured list on Wednesday, a day before the series opener with the Talons.
