Weekend Recap – AUSL Sets the Stage

Right off the weekend of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League appearance in Chattanooga comes Scenic City Summer, stretching from Chattanooga down to Dalton, Georgia. One last note on that AUSL stop: despite the weather, the weekend felt like a success. Fans showed up and many toughed it out through rain delays to watch talented professional athletes play the game we all love. Chattanooga truly is a softball city, and in my opinion it would make a great future home for an AUSL team.

The City of Chattanooga is home to Connect Sports and, for at least two weeks each summer, becomes a hotspot for the travel ball scene. Scenic City Summer in June and the Alliance Fastpitch Open Nationals (AFON) in July bring in massive crowds and countless eyes on the sport. Last summer proved just how big the moment can be. The Scenic City Cup and Champion Pro Cup were hosted at Frost Stadium, featuring pro teams like the OKC Spark, New York Rise, Florida Vibe, and the Chattanooga Steam. Frost Stadium was a packed house during those events. Also, as this past weekend with the AUSL showed, that fans show up, even outside of those marquee weeks.

What Scenic City Summer Offers

This massive week features college camps, all star games, pool and bracket play across multiple divisions, and the invite-only Scenic City Top 25 Showcase played in Dalton. Top 25 is widely considered “best of the best.”

College camps are run by coaches from schools like Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Kentucky, and several others, giving players hands-on instruction in small-group settings. (Auburn and Florida State camps have already reached capacity.)

New Additions for This Year

Connect Sports opened an Open Division for 2025. It is a shorter, lower-cost event with one less travel day, making Scenic City accessible to more teams at different competitive levels.

Other fresh wrinkles:

  • 18U Super Pools debut, grouping the top teams in the showcase.
  • 14U Top 25 is included for the first time, expanding elite play to the younger age group.
