Bandits’ Pitching Dominance Leads to Weekly Honors

After a strong second series of Athletes Unlimited Softball League action, Monday brought both recognition and roster movement. The Bandits have been on a tear, combining elite pitching with timely offense. That success led to AUSL Co-Pitchers of the Series honors for Sarah Willis and Taylor McQuillin.

The duo was lights out against the Volts, combining for the only shutout of the league’s second series. On Saturday, they allowed just four total hits. McQuillin struck out six batters across three hitless innings, while Willis tossed four innings and gave up only four hits, holding opposing batters to a .286 average.

Flippen Fuels Talons’ Offensive Surge

The Talons and Blaze series in Chattanooga was packed with offense, especially from the Talons, who exploded for 31 total runs over three games. The catalyst behind much of that firepower? Hannah Flippen.

Flippen delivered in big moments, none bigger than her go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh inning of Sunday’s series finale. That blast sealed a sweep and capped a dominant series at the plate. Flippen finished the weekend hitting .583 with seven hits and 10 RBIs, consistently producing during a series filled with momentum swings.

Roster News: Big Moves Across the League

A flurry of roster activity also made headlines Monday:

  • Mary Iakopo was moved to the Reserve Athlete Pool by the Volts, and was quickly picked up by the Bandits.
  • The Bandits reassigned Kelly Torres to the Reserve Athlete Pool.
  • Kelsey Stewart Hunter of the Volts was placed on the Injured List.
  • Hope Trautwein-Valdespino was reassigned to the Reserve Athlete Pool from the Blaze.

But the biggest addition came when the Volts selected Mia Scott from the Reserve Athlete Pool.

Scott is fresh off a historic college career at Texas, where she just helped lead the Longhorns to a National Championship. Over 255 career games, Scott posted a .401 batting average with 28 home runs, 186 RBIs, 57 doubles, 14 triples, and 253 runs scored, cementing her legacy as one of the best in Texas history.

Looking Ahead: Wichita Awaits

All four AUSL teams have now arrived in Wichita, and tonight kicks off another exciting week. The Bandits and Talons will lead off a part of a doubleheader, followed by Blaze vs. Volts to close the evening.
