Henson Brings Her Story Full Circle with Indiana State Commitment

Lindsay Henson is Home

Yesterday, Lindsay Henson, a Marshall softball transfer, signed with the Indiana State University Sycamores. I had the chance to meet Lindsay and see her play this summer in Chattanooga with the Bandits in the Scenic City Collegiate League.

While playing this summer, Henson slashed .464/.480/1.000 with 12 home runs, 28 RBIs, and 16 runs scored in just 21 games. She also pitched, showing that she can contribute in more ways than one.

The Long Road to Division I

Henson shared with me her story, and the long road she’s been on since graduating high school to fulfill her dream of playing Division I softball. As she completed the 2025 softball season at Marshall, she knew it was time to make one final move. Yes, Marshall is a Division I school, but sometimes certain factors just aren’t what’s best at the time.

Last night, I had a chance to speak with her. I asked Lindsay Henson, “Why Indiana State?”

“I chose to play my final season at Indiana State University because it feels like the right place at the right time,” said Henson.

How Indiana State Found Her

When Henson arrived in the Scenic City Collegiate League, they hosted a Portal Day. College coaches came and scouted players who were looking for new homes. The league was really successful. Just about all that came in looking for a new place found one, and that is where Indiana State took notice of Henson.

“Coach Nicole Bechtel first saw me during the Scenic City Collegiate League Portal Day, and we connected right away,” Henson said. “From there, Head Coach Windy Thees recognized the value of my experience and what I could bring to help guide and support a talented young team. Their belief in me truly means a lot.”

Coming Home

Henson brings valuable experience and leadership, but she’s also returning to her roots. Being from Lawrenceburg, Indiana, she now gets the chance to play her final college season less than three hours from home. That is something that means the world to her family, especially her grandfather.

“It also gives me the special opportunity to play close to home — something that matters deeply right now,” she shared. “My family will be able to see me play more often, especially my grandpa, who’s currently battling leukemia. Getting to compete in my home state of Indiana, where I first picked up a softball at 4 years old, brings things full circle in a way I’ll never forget.”

A Journey Worth Telling

It is always nice to hear the many different journeys and stories of today’s athletes. Henson’s is one of my favorites. She has battled, persevered, and now finds herself right where she belongs, back home, ready to lead and finish strong.
